For those travelling through Heathrow Airport, there’s good news: the airport has completed upgrading its security scanners.

The upshot is that passengers travelling through all terminals at Heathrow no longer need to remove liquids or electronics from their hand luggage, or juggle plastic bags at security, as it has rolled out next-generation CT security scanners.
This comes late, as most of the other airports in the United Kingdom have already upgraded their security scanners.
The £1bn upgrade has seen passenger security lanes across all four of Heathrow’s terminals replaced with state-of-the-art CT scanners, capable of servicing thousands of passengers an hour with significantly greater efficiency, while maintaining high safety and security standards.
The new technology enables passengers to move through checkpoints more quickly by providing even clearer images of cabin baggage, reducing preparation time and alleviating pressure during peak travel periods. It is estimated to save almost 16 million plastic bags per year, which will no longer need to be used.

Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye said:
“Every Heathrow passenger can now leave their liquids and laptops in their bags at security as we become the largest airport in the world to roll out the latest security scanning technology. That means less time preparing for security and more time enjoying their journey – and millions fewer single-use plastic bags. This billion pound investment means our customers can be confident they will continue to have a great experience at Heathrow.”
Just remember to check security requirements at the other end
The security dance we all do at the airport is just one enduring thing that we all love about travel…. not. Thus, not having to unpack your bag to fish out liquids, laptops and other technology is a welcome thing.
Just remember that security requirements vary from country to country, airport to airport, so it is prudent to check before you travel, as you might find that you’re going to need to unpack everything and shrink your travel bottles back to bottles under 100ml…
