The new route is operated with an Airbus A330-300 on this route, with 27 Business Class seats, 16 Extra space Economy seats and 247 Economy Class seats.

The expanded service reinforces Malaysia Airlines’ access to over 120 codeshare destinations through Kuala Lumpur and Doha. Via Hamad International Airport, passengers will enjoy improved connectivity from Asia and Australasia to key European, Middle Eastern, African, and American destinations, while Malaysia Airlines’ increased frequencies from Australia further support seamless westbound and eastbound travel.

Of course, Hamad International Airport is home to Qatar Airways, which also provides codeshared flights (as well as a smattering of other oneworld carriers, for those who enjoy the extra stop on a long-haul journey)

Bryan Foong, Chief Executive Officer of Airline Business from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said,

“The introduction of our third daily service to Doha underscores the strong performance of this route and the strategic importance of our partnership with Qatar Airways. By expanding capacity, we are enhancing access to Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Americas via Hamad International Airport, while leveraging our growing Australian network to support more seamless east–west travel. This expansion strengthens our global connectivity and underscores our commitment to offering customers greater flexibility, and a more integrated travel experience across key global markets.”

Bolstering capacity and onward travel

With Malaysia Airlines adding an extra flight a day to Doha, a total of four flights will be available (including a codeshare flight with Qatar Airways), providing a variety of connectivity options from Malaysia and beyond, whilst funnelling further passengers through Hamad International Airport.

Which Qatar Airways will no doubt be happy about.

New routes are important, but confidence is when an airline adds extra capacity – be it with a larger aircraft or with an extra flight a day between two cities, indicating they have filled up their current aircraft enough that they need to deploy additional aircraft to handle the passenger demand.

For passengers, more choice is never a bad thing – especially when it minimises connection times.
