Straw Poll: What you get on a second service of 8h 40 BA Economy flight????

04/10/2017 by Kevincm

Straw poll: is this an adequate 2nd service?

Some numbers:

  • BA295 (4th October 2017)
  • London Heathrow to Chicago O’Hare – 3953 Miles
  • 8h 40m flight (transatlantic flight)
  • Economy Class (World Traveller)

Is the following pre-arrival snack adequate in any sense of the word? Answers in the box below.

Here’s some comparisons in different transatlantic economy classes on the same sort of segment length:

AA47 London Heathrow to Chicago O'Hare
AA47 London Heathrow to Chicago O’Hare (Spring 2017)

IB6725 - Madrid to Chicago
Iberia Madrid to Chicago (Autumn 2016)

In other notes… they ran out out of Diet Coke. This is NOT Good.

To fly… To serve. I don’t think so. At all.

Flew BA long haul for the first time this summer. I don’t know why I thought it would be better than AA. I got a way past its prime 747. The food was bad. The cabin temperature was at least 90 degrees. The flight attendants said that if they made it cooler for us, others would be too cold. In a word, it was miserable. This airline sucks.

You confused an airplane with a restaurant.

    Always bring your own food.

    Economy = BYO2ndservice food.

Doesn’t seem awesome, especially if no ice and no diet coke/coke zero. The candy bar even seems a bit small. I don’t expect much in economy but it wouldn’t be much to ask for a packaged danish or something like that. On the plus side the BA tea and scones are rather nice upfront usually 🙂 The clotted butter and jam make it extra special.

We were pleasantly surprised flying from London Heathrow to Dulles International on 9/20. The food was actually good. We got whiskey and wine. Several services of beverages and snacks. The FA must have really like us because he always gave us all that was left, maybe because we were in the last row. It was much better than our flight to London Heathrow (food sucked and no liquor or extras included).

I also learned the hard way that BA wasn’t a better option to cross the Atlantic over AA. Iberia though, is a great option in economy and my preferred method currently as a OneWorld flyer.
