QF: QF32 Incident – Material or Design issues…

Qantas has gone on record (and defensive) in regards to the Engine Containment Failure on Thursday, quote

“We believe this is most likely some kind of material failure or a design issue,” 

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce

It was also quoted by Alan Joyce that the

“it was too early to say what exactly caused the problem, but he said the blowout was “an engine issue” and not one of maintenance”

In addtion, it was quoted that the remaining A380’s Qantas operates remain grounded until checks are complete.

Rolls Royce is contining checks with other Trent 900 powered A380’s – Qantas, Singapore and Lufthansa – although the nature of these checks has not been specified.

What is apparent is that the plane came down safely, and that Qantas are saying “not our fault” in terms of maintenance.

A bit too early to say that as investigations are ongoing…
