QF: Pliots vote for industrial action

11/07/2011 by Kevincm

It seems all is not well aboard the good ship Qantas with the pilots voting to take industrial action over pay and conditions.

With 94% of those who voted voting for action – although at this time the exact form (eg strikes) has not been decided or when it would take place. The Union wishes to use the threat of the action as a stick to push Qantas management to the table for discussions.

The Pilots are unhappy with plans to shift operations to Asia and outsource some of the pilots (with the upcoming start of Qantas Asia operations). Qantas are disappointed that the pilots have voted to take action and inconvenience the Australian traveller. They also state that current demands from the union are “excessive and unsustainable”.

Oh great. Another round of strike action round the corner. Just what we all need…
