It seems Japan Airlines is going all-in with its long-haul programme, with the latest changes to the network, as well as some nice passenger experience touches.
Airbus A350-1000 deployments
JAL’s Airbus A350-1000 operation expands, with the type flying 14 flights across 5 routes. They now include:
- Toyko Haneda – New York (as JL6, JL4 /JL5, JL3)
- Tokyo Haneda – Dallas-Fort Worth (as JL12/JL11)
- Tokyo Haneda – Los Angeles (JL16/JL15)
- Tokyo Haneda – London Heathrow
- Regular service: JL43/44
- Seasonal upgrade between 1st October 2026 and 27 March 2026 – JL41/JL42
- Tokyo Haneda – Paris Charles de Gaulle – Mixed Traffic with 777-300ER. Goes Daily A350-1000 from September 2026
Service Increases
Japan Airlines is also boosting its international network with a number of service uplifts. They include:
- Tokyo Narita – San Diego (JL66/JL65) – Daily operation for the winter season from 4 flights a week, operating from 1st September 2026 to 27th March 2027
- Tokyo Narita – Bengaluru (JL753/574) – Daily operation for the winter season from 3 flights a week, operating from 1st September 2026 to 27th March 2027
- Tokyo Narita – Melbourne (JL773/JL774) – Daily operation for the winter season from 3 flights a week, operating from 25th October 2026 to 27th March 2027
- Kansai – Los Angeles (JL60/JL69) – Daily operation from five flights a week, operating from 1st July to 24th October 2026
- Tokyo Haneda – Helsinki (JL47/48) – Daily operation from five flights a week, operating from 1st July to 24th October 2026
Passenger Experience updates
There are some changes across the board, with Japan Airlines rolling out a new in-flight meal service. It was initially deployed on the New York route. Following feedback, the new service will be expanded to more long-haul international routes from June.
Specifically, the first meal service now allows passengers to select their dessert from an expanded lineup displayed on a dessert cart circulating the cabin.
As passenger seats become more private, JAL hopes that providing a warm human touch will be a delightful conclusion to a satisfying meal.
There’s also Hakurakusei sake, brewed by the Niizawa Sake Brewery in Miyagi. Hakurakusei Junmai Ginjo has been tuned for JAL, and will be offered in Premium Economy and Economy Class.
It will be offered on all international routes (with some exceptions to China, Seoul and Guam).
Finally, for those who have their ears in the 1960s, JAL is bringing The Beatles Original Studio Catalogue to JAL Inflight Entertainment. To mark the 60th anniversary of their historic visit, JAL is thrilled to bring you all 13 original studio albums, alongside the acclaimed documentary film “The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years.”
Useful uplifts
Japan remains a hot destination at this time, and Japan Airlines is banking on direct traffic with boosts in terms of new aircraft, new routes and touches to improve the experience onboard.
For passengers, it provides further choice with extended timetables and an uplifted service on board.
