Now Libya is settling down, British Airways is set to relaunch flights to Tripoli.
After a 15 month break, flights are due to recommend on 1st May, operating a 3 times a week schedule on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Exact times are to be set yet, but British Airways seems to be happy going back.
The unrest in the area occurred they day after British Midland launched their London to Tripoli route – the route was suspended 2 days after operation (which in BMI terms is a lifetime), and operators are slowly heading back to the area, with Etihad Airways launching a service between Abu Dhabi and Tripoli, with Air Malta, Alitalia, Afriqiyah Airways, EgyptAir, Libyan Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, Tunisair and Turkish Airlines also resuming services since the unrest has ceased.

Great news. I had a wonderful trip to Libya last fall and would love to go back and see more. Last time I olny spent a few days because of the expense of traveling there under the Gadhafi regime, but now hopefully there will be less red tape. The Ubari Lakes in the Sahara and the Ancient and World War II sites of Cyrenaica are next on my list.

I also believe that Qatar will be heading to Tripoli too shortly…
