This peice of gold wafted through the interwebs today from British Airways. It seems that someone has been listening to Love is in the Air by John Paul Young. Or a PR bunny got a good supply of free chocolates out of someone.
At Gatwick, British Airways customers have a double chance to be romantic this month. On Valentine’s Day, every passenger will be given a heart-shaped chocolate to share with a loved one – or just eat themselves.
Then on Leap Year’s Day (February 29) single women will have the chance to declare their love at 30,000 feet over the aircraft cabin address system.
Every brave female passenger who takes the four-yearly opportunity to make a marriage proposal will be entered into a prize draw to win a pair of tickets to one of the 22 British Airways European destinations served from Gatwick Airport. These include romantic routes like Amsterdam, Bordeaux, Faro, Marrakech, Rome, Venice or Verona.
The offer of a high-flying proposal is open to all female customers flying on British Airways long haul, European or domestic flights from or to Gatwick on February 29.
Silla Maizey, managing director Gatwick, said: “We thought we would give our customers the chance of a little extra love during February. Valentine’s Day chocolates are for everyone but the chance to propose on board an aircraft is strictly for the ladies!
Now, all I have to say to this little marketing wheeze is REALLY? This strikes me of certain other carriers that fly out of Gatwick rather than a bit of refinement that I expect of British Airways. Oh well. Any trick to get passengers on planes. And making PA’s of love etc.
And no – I haven’t got any flights planned out of London Gatwick then 😉
