JAL takes delivery of the it’s first 787

26/03/2012 by Kevincm

Well for those 787 watchers out there – good news. Japan Airlines today took delivery of its first pair of Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

As JAL ramps up to the Tokyo Narita to Boston service due to commence next month, and  San Diego to begin later this year, this is time for JAL to get to grips with one of the newest aircraft types in the air.  For JAL this is a double swoop as they have managed to get two frames at once for delivery – allowing a daily service to operate using 787 aircraft (something ANA is still suffering with with a single internationally configured 787 in service)

Both aircraft has will depart as JL8101 and JL8102 – trackable on Flightaware (8101 to Narita) and (8102 to Haneda)

The JAL 787’s are powered by GE GEnx-1B engines – something worth of a semi technical writeup when I get 10 minutes to do it. This represents the first two out of twenty five aircraft that are due to JAL.

And whilst the Eurowhite paintwork can be a bit… boring the Crane at the tail is still impressive.

It’s too bad. I am from San Diego, but now live in Tokyo. Sadly all my status is with Star Alliance.

Oh well, there’s always ANA. You never know what they’ll do when they get a few more internationally configured 787’s…
