Malaysia Airlines are forging ahead with its membership of Oneworld, and is due to join the alliance towards the end of the year.
Already readying for their first Airbus A380 to be delivered, and have been creating codeshares with fellow Oneworld partners such as Cathay Pacific, Dragonair and Royal Jordanian.
For passengers, there is a new benifit – increased hand luggage allowances. Malaysia Airlines currently operate a 5kg hand luggage allowance in economy. This goes up by 2kg to 7kg. Business Class and First Class travellers will have an allowance of two pieces weighing up to 7kg each.
Bags must not measure more than 56cm x 36cm x 23cm. See http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/uk/en/book-and-plan/baggage/hand-baggage.html for the full gossip on what luggage fits where.
Now 2kg extra isn’t a lot (heck, I could pad out that with camera equipment and the laptop) – especially considering how other Oneworld members have differing hand luggage policies.
Still, it’s a step forward – a welcome one for those who live on hand luggage alone…

MH is actually quite decent overall. It would have easily been another SQ if not for Malaysian politics and the ancillaries attached.
