Emirates adds Tokyo Haneda to its network

28/01/2013 by Kevincm

For those of you who fly Emirates to Japan, yet hate the commute from Tokyo Nartia to downtown Tokyo – well there’s good news – Emirates is to serve Tokyo Haneda from 3rd June 2013

Timetable as below:

EK312 DEPART DXB 0935  ARRIVE HND 00:01+1
EK313 DEPART HND 01:35 ARRIVE DXB 07:05

Operates from: 03/06/2012
Booked Equipment: Boeing 777-200LR (Three Class)

Emirates will operate a Three Class 777-200LR on this route, configured as:

  • 8 First Class in 1-2-1
  • 42 Business Class in 2-3-2
  • 216 Economy Class in 3-4-3

Whilst the destination at Tokyo Haneda is convenient, the timings however – are not what I’d call “convenient”, for ongoing travel from Haneda.  At the time of arrival, you’ll be needing a night-time Limousine bus or taxis as the last Monorail to Hamamatsuchō or Keikyū service to Shinagawa would be long gone after you’ve cleared immigration.

An interesting option to the city of Tokyo. A shame the timings are awful – almost makes the hike from Narita a better option…

I’m sure that the awful timings are not because that’s what EK wanted, but rather the silly “protectionism” that is supposed to protect NRT. Now that HND has 4 runways as well as that new international terminal, they could really expand service there. But that will threaten NRT’s role given how inconvenient it is. The reason that HND is allowed these international operations is that NRT has a night-time curfew, so during the curfew hours plus a 1-2 hour buffer HND can offer limited international service.

Logically it would make more sense to move all the premium airlines to HND and put the LCC’s at NRT
