Iberia introduces another way to save itself money – Print your own Luggage tags!

09/07/2013 by Kevincm

Iberia have introduced a new tool for those who like to print everything at home and save the airline the expense of printing a boarding pass – they’ve also introduced print your luggage tag called MyBagTag

The idea is simple – when you check in, you can also check your luggage at the same time. Providing it meets the allowances in your ticket (in terms of weight, items and size), you can print an A4 sheet with your luggage tag, take it to the airport where you can pick up a plastic envelope to put it in.

It’s then a case of wandering to the fast bag drop for a scan of your bag, and it can head to the bowels of the airport and hopefully your plane.

Iberia have release a jaunty little video to go with this to show the idea in action:

The service is being rolled out on Iberia, Iberia Express, and Air Nostrum point-to-point flights to/from any Spanish domestic destination, with the aim to bring it shortly to European destinations, then worldwide – and to allow connecting flights through it.

It’s an interesting innovation, with it aiming to save more time at the airport for those who need to spend that last-minute in a meeting before heading to the plane, or spending more time with families.

If Iberia can get full IATA agreement on the tags, then this could be spread rapidly to other airlines, and soon, you’ll be printing your own boarding pass – and luggage tag.
