Aegean follows other airlines – launchs a discount light fare and a flex fare

04/10/2013 by Kevincm

It seems that the “Hand baggage Only” fares are continuing to grow, with Aegean Airlines now offering two new fare – GoLight and Flex

Go Light is the Hand Baggage only fare featuring:

  • 1 Hand Luggage item at 8kg
  • Changes for can be made  €30/£25 for domestic flights and €40/£32 for short international flights and €50/£40 for longer international flights.
  • Miles and Bonus Miles

These fares will be cheaper than the tradition flex fare.

Flex features a more traditional economy fare

  • 1 hand baggage item up to 8 kg
  • 1 hold bag up to 23kg
  • Unlimited ticket changes without Rebooking Fee to Flex or Business
  • Miles and bonus miles

To get the extra flexibility, you’re looking at an extra €35 per segment.

Gold Members of the Aegean Airlines frequent flyer programme – Miles&Bonus – will get one hold bag free.

The new fares will be live from 10th October 2013.

With airlines seeking any advantage over the low cost carriers, I’d expect more of these two-tier economy class fares to turn up, rather than less. It gives consumers the choice of what features they want – and if they want to pay more for flexibility over rigidity.
