It seems that the gamble for Emirates to start a route up to Ireland is paying off, as the airline prepares to increase services between Dubai and Dublin.
The doubling of services go into effect from 1st September 2014, with the following timetable going into effect:
Dubai to Dublin EK161 DEPART DXB 07:25 ARRIVE DUB 12:15 EK163 DEPART DXB 16:00 ARRIVE DUB 20:50 Dublin to Dubai EK162 DEPART DUB 13:50 ARRIVE DXB 00:25+1 EK164 DEPART DUB 22:20 ARRIVE DXB 08:55+1 Double Daily Operation Commences 1st September 2014 Booked Equipment: Boeing 777-300ER Operates Daily. EK161/EK162 continues to operate as timetabled to 31st August 2014
Emirates offer a three class service on EK161/162 (and is also showing three class equipment for EK163/EK164), configured as:
- 8 First Class Suites in 1-2-1
- 42 Business Class Seats in 2-3-2
- 304 Economy Class seats in the tight 3-4-3 formation
With the connections that are offered at Dubai, to Emirates network, this can offer some powerful connections who need them – and could well be tax efficient who want to avoid paying big Air Passenger Duty fees that come from flying from the United Kingdom, and are prepared to fly over to Dublin (and the timings are such that the early Aer Lingus flights from the UK will meet this with time to spare)…

I bet they are trying to do this to confuse people who aren’t familiar with ATA codes (DUB vs. DXB) 😛

Well it was fun working this our on the Emirates Booking engine earlier. Still, what’s a letter change and 3682 miles between friends? 😉
