It seems that Air Berlin and Etihad want to offer more connections as Air Berlin is to operate a second daily flight between Berlin-Tegel and Abu Dhabi.
The flight operated by Air Berlin will double the amount of flights between the two cities to 14 flights a week.
The new timetable which goes into effect on the 26th October looks like this:
AB7492 DEPART TXL 10:45 – ARRIVE AUH 19:50 AB7494 DEPART TXL 21:50 – ARRIVE AUH 06:55+1 AB7495 DEPART AUH 02:45 – ARRIVE TXL 06:35 AB7493 DEPART AUH 09:10 – ARRIVE TXL 13:00 2nd Service commences 26th October 2014 Operates Daily Booked Equipment: Airbus A330-200
The new flight pair – AB7492/AB7493 will make for reasonable connections both in Abu Dhabi and
So why the second flight? There’s probably a little insistence from 30% owner of Air Berlin – Etihad – to drive more traffic, and funnel more long haul traffic via its Abu Dhabi hub. The inbound timings should make a good connection with Etihads feeds into India, the Far East, Africa and beyond. In addition, Berlin Tegel will be used as a destination of Etihad Regional (Darwin Airline), so there may be addition feed from there too.
The only other Persian Gulf airline operating at Berlin-Tegel is Qatar Airways – with Emirates kept out for now. For those who want to fly the German flag carrier to the Middle East from the German capital, you’ll need to change at Frankfurt or Munich for onward journeys.
By using Air Berlin to double its services, Etihad bypasses a lot of the regulatory moans that Emirates runs up against when adding new services to Germany.
And it’s another option for oneworld fliers as Head For Points reports that Avios redemptions on Air Berlin metal can be excellent value…
