Time for a subject I don’t write about too often – credit cards.
Why? The UK credit card market is different to the US in many respects… least of all are the offerings for new joiners.
Two offers came through my inbox from United Airlines and American Airlines.
First up United Airlines are offering 15,000 bonus award miles when you open a MBNA Mileage Plus Credit Card
The nasty part – You will need to spend £1,800 in 90 days from the account opening to get these bonus miles. Day-to-day earning isn’t too shabby as the card is offered as a Visa and American Express combination:
- 2.5 miles per £2 spent on the American Express card
- 1.25 miles per £2 spent on the Visa card
This card offers 0% charges for the first twelve months on flights booked on United Airlines.
You will need to apply by the 15 December 2014 to take part. Note the card carries an 18.9%APR for those who carry balances over.
You can apply for the card at https://apply.mbna.co.uk/UKNeoCCapp/entry?sc=1NAJUALIEC0047I
Please read the below. I am providing a link to the United Airlines Credit Card at https://apply.mbna.co.uk/UKNeoCCapp/entry?sc=1NAJUALIEC0047I which is offered by MBNA.

Please note, the information above does not constitute financial advice and you should always do your own research on top to ensure it’s right for your specific circumstances, and may impact on your credit score. So don’t blame me if you overspend on a card and they come hounding after you. If in doubt – seek appropriate financial advice.
Those who are considering applying should bear in mind you’ll need to be resident in the UK to get one, and probably have reasonable banking references/credit ratings to obtain the card.
