Review 2014: January to March

29/12/2014 by Kevincm

As we come to the end of the year, its time to look back at 2014 in the world of Economy Class and Beyond (and GhettoIFE), as I take a look at some of the events that have helped shape the year.

In the first of the reviews, I’m going to look between January and April

January

  • Delta adds more 717 routes
  • American Airlines decide on their new tail… something I’m still getting used to seeing it at airports.
  • Berlin Brandenburg Airport continues its joke status, not to open in 2014 (and if we see movement in 2015 – that’ll be a miricale)
  • Biman Bangladesh started its winddown plans for the DC-10. Something I’d get closer to than I belive
  • Emirates fight over Dublin and goes toe-to-toe with Etihad
  • Some oik stole my wallet in Paris.
  • Rail stuck back by taking Ryanair on and winning in Italy
  • Jet Airways increased capacity to Abu Dhabi
  • British Airways introduces a better way to assign seats on codeshares

February

  • The Bombadier CSeries was meeting performance expectations. Alas the programme didn’t know what was going to happen to it….
  • EDreams did a periodic table of Airlines. I had a few issues with it.
  • Virgin Atlantic finally pulled the plug on its long ailing Hong Kong to Sydney service.
  • Jessica Ambats shows everyone how to get great air-to-air photography
  • Silkair begins switching from Airbus to Boeing
  • Virgin Atlantic tries Google Glass
  • I warn the dangers of choosing points over quality… when it comes to flowers
  • I go on BBC WM in Birmingham to talk about the Biman DC-10.
  • Emirates head off to the Windy City
  • Delta’s agents put through a flight without immigration clearance.

March

  • Top of the list was the loss of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 which has yet to be found.
  • Bombadier’s CSeries grow to to three aircraft
  • Lufthansa prepared to introduce Premium Economy
  • BA snatched defeat from the jaws of victory
  • Airbus begun assembling the first A320neo
  • ANA Orders aircraft from Airbus and Boeing
  • US Airways joins oneworld
  • SAS to start a Stavanger to Houston all business service.

Next: April through June!
