Qatar Airways fiddle with Doha-London route – drops A319 shuttle

03/07/2015 by Kevincm

Qatar Airways is fiddling around with its timetable and equipment deployment between Doha and London Heathrow.

There are some critical changes occuring, the two big ones being:

  • The Airbus A319 Business Class only shuttle service between Doha to Heathrow is being withdrawn, and being replaced with a Boeing 787-8
  • One of the rotations that is operated with an Airbus A380 (QR1/2) will be swapped to operate with an Airbus A330

The changes mean that five different types of planes (and five different types of product) served on the Doha-London Heathrow sector.

Qatar Airways will operate the following flight pairs between Doha to London Heathrow, with the listed equipment from the 25th October 2015

  • QR009/010 – Airbus A340-600
  • QR011/012 Airbus A340-600
  • QR007/008 Boeing 777-300ER
  • QR003/004 Airbus A380
  • QR001/002 Airbus A330-300
  • QR015/016 Boeing 787-8
  • QR005/006 Airbus A330-300

Looking at the changes, there were some accusations that the A319 Business Class only shuttle service was sitting on a slot at Heathrow. More annoyingly for those passengers, you still had to go through the rigmarole of dealing with Heathrow airport for a semi-private jet experience.

Whilst using London City Airport for this shuttle service might sound perfect, the length of the runway would prevent the use of the A319. That, and the largest aircraft rated for London City Airport is rated for is an A318.

The upgrade of the business only flight to a 787 flight is met with an A380 service being downgraded to an A330.

It goes without saying – whilst there are a choice of times and equipment, use tools like RouteHappy to see what equipment has what

But what is Qatar Airways like to fly… even in Economy? I might have some insight into that very shortly…
