SNAPSHOT: The Oryx Rotunda, Doha

08/07/2015 by Kevincm

Time for another quick snapshot where I look at one of the hotels I stayed at this trip – this time in Doha.

Full Disclosure: This transit hotel was provided by Qatar Airways as part of my cash-paid ticket.

After navigating through the pain of Hamad International Airport in Doha, it was time experience one of their hotels. I had been booked into the Oryx Rotunda at Qatar Airways expense, so it was a matter of finding a meet-and-greet person, so I could be escorted to the shuttle bus.

So, there’s Pizza Hut in Doha. Good to know.

Soon enough, I was in the hotel, and very plus it was too.

Bear in mind, I had arrived just after Midnight, with 1 hour of my transit already gone. I would need to be back at the airport around 5ish to make the Haneda flight, so I had 5 hours of rest time.

Looking back now, it would had been easier to just hang around in the lounge, but what the blazes. If Qatar Airways was going to pay for this, I wouldn’t argue.

The receptionist collected passports and vouchers on the way and everyone sat down to wait for their room keys to be issued

A short while later (going onto 00:15), keys were issued. With that I headed up to my room.

So what do we have… a king bed with all the usual facilities – and very plush it is too.

Hey – this isn’t bad in the least. Considering I didn’t have to pay a penny for it, I would had been happier with anything smaller.

To be honest, I spent about 2 hours sleeping/dozing. The rest of the time was trying to get some sleep or connecting with the world.

WiFi was… well… not great, but considering what I needed to do, it did the job.

But as a chance to get of the airport and go to a relaxing environment where you can do what you want for a bit – it’s a great option. It’s an even better option when the airline is paying!
