Delta adds two new UK routes, JFK – Edinburgh, Salt Lake City to Heathrow

26/08/2015 by Kevincm

Delta is to add more routes to the United Kingdom, with two new routes from New York-JFK to Edinburgh and Salt Lake City to London beginning in May 2016.

Frankfurt Airport - Delta 767

Delta’s seasonal Salt Lake City to London Heathrow flights will operate as follows:

DL50 DEPART SLC 20:10 ARRIVE LHR 13:10+1
DL51 DEPART LHR 14:15 ARRIVE SLC 18:07

Booked equipment: Boeing 767-300
Commences 1st May 2016 from Salt Lake City
Operates Daily
Seasonal operation only.

The New York-JFK to Edinburgh will operate as:

DL488 DEPART JFK 20:15 ARRIVE EDI 08:40+1
DL489 DEPART EDI 10:30 ARRIVE JFK 13:01

Booked equipment: Boeing 757-200
Commences 26th May 2016 from JFK
Operates Daily

The new routes will be codeshared with Virgin Atlantic to provide extra connectivity for those passengers who need codeshares.

Services will be operated with Deltas usual two class cabin.

Nat Pieper, Delta’s Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa. states:

“Delta and Virgin Atlantic are committed to offering an extensive network on the trans-Atlantic, and our new flights from London and Edinburgh will offer more connections to destinations throughout the U.S. and beyond.”

Which is nice.

This opens up some interesting options for those planning for their summer 2016 holidays, as well as some new direct connectivity to the regions of the United Kingdom (and once again, proving London Heathrow isn’t the only airport in the UK worth serving).

Delta’s Salt Lake City to London Heathrow route marks a new route between the US Mountain West region and Europe – a first. Meanwhile the New York to Edinburgh will be contested with American Airliens (who operate a seasonal route), and United (who operate to Newark).

New routes are always welcome and this seems to be a positive one that. It should also give a bit more competition which is always welcome for those of us with slightly tighter wallet.

That JFK-EDI flight could be handy next year, although I wish someone would offer NYC-Bristol. I flew EWR-BRS on Continental back in the day to visit friends in Devon and loved being able to go from getting off the plane to the rental car desk in 30 minutes, albeit with a slight pang of guilt from the non-EU customs line always only having a handful of people in it. Fast, friendly, and not Heathrow.
