A film about Birmingham…

20/09/2015 by Kevincm

The City of Birmingham. It’s 100 miles from London, and a world apart. It’s also the place I like to call home.

In a lot of peoples minds, Birmingham is a concrete palace, with odd accents and more canals than Venice (it’s technically correct, so there Venice).

Birmingham came to International attentional earlier this year an idiot (or so-called expert who claimed to be an expert on claimed on Fox News that the city was a Muslim-only zone. Of course, it’s a pile of steaming rubbish as he was forced to apologise.

And so was Fox News.

Even The Rough Guide likes Birmingham – so much so it was listed as a Top 10 City for 2015

But there’s so much more to my home city – as John Lewis (who is opening a branch of their department store in Birmingham) shows – the people of Birmingham at their best:

As well as being the home to John Lewis, the Bullring, The Jewellery Quarter, The Universities, The Canals, the museums, – the city makes a great jumping off point to explore Stratford Upon Avon (Shakespeare Home), the Potteries in Staffordshire as well as Ironbridge in Shropshire.

Yes, the city may have more than its fair share of roadworks (and the infinite long term diversions), and it can be a bit bewildering to first time visitors… But there are a lot of gems hidden away in this city.

As the city changes again with the launch of the revamped Birmingham New Street Station (which I’ll be covering shortly), Birmingham offers many facilities, entertainment, tourism, working and transport options

As well as being my home.
