It seems the heat is too much for Lufthansa, as the airline plans to withdrawn operations between Munich and Dubai from April next year.

According to airlineroute, it seems that operations on flights LH638/LH639 will be ceasing after the 10th April (11th from Dubai).
Meanwhile, two of the big Gulf area carriers are boosting services to Munich
- Emirates are due to take operations to three times a day between Munich and Dubai in February (the airline is currently operating a two times daily service) with a mixture of Boeing 777-300ERs and Airbus A380s
- Qatar Airways are operating a twice daily service between Munich and Doha with brand new Airbus A350s (with a short hop over to Dubai).
Compared with the single swappable A330-300 or A340-300 that Lufthansa operate between Munich and Dubai, it seems the Gulf carriers have squeezed Lufthansa out on this route.
For those who wish to use Lufthansa or Star Alliance between Munich and Dubai, you’ll have to shuttle up to Frankfurt to catch the daily flight or head over Zurich to catch the Swiss flight.
None the less, loosing a route like this won’t look good on the Lufthansa route map…
