We’ve all seen the press about Hoverboards and their dicey batteries. Well, its time to focus on battery packs – especially those manufactured for UK Mobile operator EE.
Earlier this year, EE did a partial re-call on their power bars due to a manufacturing defect. It seems the re-call is now for all EE Power Bars.
It appears that EE have become aware of a very small number of further incidents where Power Bars have overheated in circumstances that could cause a fire safety risk
They look a bit like this:
EE state if you have one you should:
- Stop using it straight away
- Return it to the store.
And obviously, don’t use them on a plane! With the devices overheating, they become a fire risk – and up in the air is the last place where you want a fire.
Eligible customers who return a power bar will be issued a £20 voucher to spend at the EE online accessories shop. Details will be given when you return the power bar.
I think we’re all becoming more aware the risks that lithium-ion batteries have. Whilst they are great for phones and laptops – if manufactured cheaply or incorrectly – they become safety hazards at best, and at worst, a fire risk.
If you do have a power bar, return the thing and buy a decent one from elsewhere.
And for hells teeth sake – don’t use the thing.
