Status Lost: British Airways Executive Club Gold (will be a silver soon enough)
Flights of the year:
- Best flight: This is tough… but it goes to British Airways flight BA001 London City to New York JFK. An example of how all BA services should be run.
- Most interesting flight: I’m going to say Ryanair between Birmingham and Dublin. Puts a lot of the old Ryanair myths to bed.
- Worst flight of the year: Easy. US Airways First Class from Honolulu to Phoenix. Clapped out plane, and not an impressive breakfast service for a segment of that length.
Commentary:
2015 has been dominated by two themes.
- Firstly, the gutting of British Airways Executive Club has hit me hard (and where it hurts most – on economy segments).
- And my reaction to it – Burning Avios like they’re going out of fashion.
I’ve made about three different redemptions this year, knocking down my battle-pile of Avios by half… where it needs to be to be honest.
Again – experiences are high on my list and using my points to do this. This includes flying off to the Airline Interiors Expo, Going off to see Le Chic Geek in Washington DC… and even going off to Hong Kong for my birthday.
Experiences I wouldn’t pay the hard cash – but points lessen the burden and make the experiences worthwhile.
2016 will be an interesting year in both airline loyalty for me …. and where I go. I hope you join me for the adventure.
