Ryanair has finally confirmed its intention to return to the Belfast area, with the opening of a new base at Belfast International Airport (Aldergrove).
Ryanair will launch seven routes out of Belfast Aldergrove, basing three aircraft at the airport.

The routes that are getting extra traffic include:
- Alicante (3 times weekly)
- Berlin (3 times weekly)
- Krakow (3 times weekly)
- Lanzarote (2 times weekly)
- Malaga (4 times weekly)
- Milan (2 times weekly)
- Tenerife (2 times weekly)
Ryanair will also be boosting its shuttle operation to London Gatwick, with frequencies increasing to five times daily – bringing it head to head against EasyJet who operate on the same route.
These commence in October 2016, with ticketing open.
Lead in fares are of typical Ryanair value (in other words, basic fare is reasonable if you can find them, but be prepared for extras)
- Alicante £24.99
- Berlin £19.99
- Krakow £19.99
- Lanzarote £34.99
- London Gatwick £16.99
- Malaga £24.99
- Milan £19.99
- Tenerife £34.99
One thing to note is that Belfast International Airport is a bit of the way out of the city – so allow time to get to and from the airport if you are intending to use these services.
Adam recently wrote about his Ryanair experience, and so did I for that matter – and it isn’t that bad providing you know the rules.
Business travellers who aren’t married to the British Airways or Aer Lingus services out of Belfast City Airport should find the new frequencies to London Gatwick by Ryanair tempting.
As for the rest of the routes – very much leisure traffic. But it adds more connectivity, which could lead to a bigger network and more frequencies building up.
