As you’re aware a few weeks ago, there was a coup attempt in Turkey – with the coup failing.
What has happened since has been purging of political elite, military, academic and others who are not deemed to be loyal to the current president.
Earlier, this was taken a step further, with staff from Turkish Airlines being affected by the purge according to Reuters, The Independent and other sources

The numbers vary from report to report, with The Independent quoting 211, where as Reuters come out with 100 management positions and 250 other. Most notably, the Chief Financial Officer was one post that went.
Turkish Airlines is 49% owned by the Government of Turkey, so it was bound to be affected by the current purge.
Turkish Airlines have been knocking out press releases that look like something out of North Korea recently.
How this will play out in the long term is anyone’s guess.
However – there will need to a top to bottom look at how Turkish Airlines conducts customer service – as well as customer communication during times to crisis.

A true test of someone’s character is at times trial. Turkish Airline miserably failed at it. Their flights from los Angeles to Turkey were canceled after the coup but what we saw was Turkish Airline staff taking money from every passenger on the airport for no reason. I call it “ransom”. They were making one excuse or other to get out passengers pay more money. My mother was one of them till I called them up and argued. Realizing that I am here in USA and my American Express card will back me, they decided to back off. Never flying with them again
