Not a question I ask a lot often… but what did I do on Friday? (Apart from catch a National Express coach first thing in the morning).
Well, I was at Heathrow Airport, with AirlineGeeks.com to celebrate the US National Aviation Day – in cooperation with American Airlines.
So how did I spend my time with them?
Well. Here’s a very very short synopsis. More of a Snapshot
I went to one of the most exclusive places to go at Heathrow – the Tower…. and went up in it.
Here’s a model of it…
And looking up the tower.
And shot a few photos from the tower…
It was then a visit to the operations section at Heathrow:
And then we had a ramp tour – with very rare ramp access to points of Heathrow that you don’t get to see every day of the week…
Air New Zealand Boeing 777-300ER landing at Heathrow
British Airways Airbus A319 taxing at Heathrow.
Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300ER landing at Heathrow
United Airlines Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner landing at Heathrow
Toured an American Airlines Boeing 777-300ER:
American Airlines First
American Airlines Business Class Cabin
American Airlins Main Cabin Extra
American Airlines Main Cabin
And of course – the cockpit!
And some more action shots near Terminal 5
… and visited the new arrivals lounge too!
I could never say no to an Eggs Benedict!
Coming up over the next week or so I’ll be doing some detailed posts, covering
- The New American Airlines Arrivals Lounge
- Life on the tower
- The Boeing 777-300ER – A look into the plane.
- Ramp action (split in two sections)
A big thank you to
- Ryan of AirlineGeeks for putting the programme together
- James for organising us locally
- The American Airlines Heathrow Team for being such wondeful hosts
- Heathrow Airport for granting us access to nearly all-areas
- American Airlines for extending their love of US National Aviation Day before their national borders and beyond.
And of course, my fellow #avgeeks who were out there who joined me on this adventure.

Very cool-I was able to be at show center a the Chicago Air and Water show. Not nearly as cool as your trip!
