For those of you on long haul flights out of London Heathrow, and like arriving at the last minute, there are more changes to check in times especially if you are flying British Airways.
Heathrow Terminal 5 Check-in area – Image, Economy Class and Beyond
British Airways will require all long haul passengers who departing Terminal 3 or 5 to have checked in with 1 hour (60 minutes) before the flight departs. This allows time for security conformance and to get to the gate in time for your flight. This is an increase from the current 45 minutes.
Short haul check in deadline remains at 45 minutes before departure, plus any time to clear conformance.
Typically, conformance – the process where you scan yourself and pass through security at Heathrow – needs to be completed 35 minutes before departure.
Check in times at other airports have not changed, and you are advised to check the BA site for the check-in deadlines
These changes go into effect on the 30th October 2016 (this coming Sunday).
It goes without saying that if you are heading to a flight at any airport, to give yourself time to get to the gate (and time allowed for any distractions like Duty Free, the trip to get a bottle of water, or a trip to the small room).
And besides… checking in for an international flight with under an hour to the deadline is just begging for something to go wrong…
