bmi Regional is to return to the West Midlands, with the announcement of a new hub to be created at Birmingham Airport.

bmi regional will launch three new services from Birmingham Airport, connection to destinations across Europe.
They are:
- Graz, Austria
- Nuremburg, Germany
- Gothenburg, Sweden
Birmingham to Graz will be the first route to be launched on the 27 February 2017, with a twice weekly service on Mondays and Fridays, increasing to four times weekly in March. Lead-in fares start at £99 each way. It will also mark the airlines first foray into Austria.
Birmingham to Nuremberg will launch on the 8th May 2017, with six return flights a week. Lead-in fares start at £79 one way, with this being the airlines 7th route to Germany
Birmingham to Gothenburg will also launch on the 8 May 2017, with six return flights per week. Fares start £89 one way, with this being the fourth route to Sweden.
bmi Regional (for those who have short memories) is the off-shoot of British Midland that flew regional routes. Regional was sold when International Airlines Group brought British Midland, and has been running its operation independently since then – building its own codeshares and network.
The airline operates a mixture of Embraer E-145s and E-135s in its fleet.
This is the second attempt for bmi regional to build a base at Birmingham Airport. A previous attempt lasted eight months before it was shuttered in a network review. Hopefully this time, the airline can make it stick this time, and build a long term and sustainable network from Birmingham.

I see bmi Regional managed to poach the route planners from Donnington Hall.

The more things change, the more they stay the same… Although I thought the bmi dartboard was left at Air Berlin’s HQ last.. 😉
