It seems Emirates is going on the attack with the launch of a Fifth Freedom Route between Dubai, Athens and Newark NJ.

Emirates will deploy a Boeing 777-300ER on this route, with it to operates daily .
This will be the first time Emirates deploy their services to Newark, with the airline currently operating four services a day to New York JFK.
So why a Boeing 777-300ER? Simple – Newark isn’t A380 capable… so it’s a 777 being used.
Operations look a bit like this:
EK209 DEPART DXB 10:50 ARRIVE ATH 14:25 DEPART 16:40 ARRIVE EWR 22:00 EK210 DEPART EWR 23:45 ARRIVE ATH 15:05+1 DEPART 17:10+1 ARRIVE 23:50+1 Commences: 12th March 2017 Booked Equipment: Boeing 777-300ER Data: Emirates
So is this going to make US carriers mad? without a doubt. Expect the usual moans about subsides fo flare up – especially with the new administration in place
In terms of competition, according to Wandering Aramean, there is minimal competition on the route.
An interesting play by Emirates at this time. And it’ll be down to how the US carriers react to this move.
