Virgin Trains East Coast currently operate a fleet of Intercity 125 (Diesel Class 43 locomotives with Mark III carriages), and Intercity 225 (Electric Class 91 locomotives with Mark VI carriages), operating between London Kings Cross and Scotland.
This works out to be a total of 410 carriages which have their interiors have been revamped and 24,427 seats replaced across the fleet.
First Class seats have been refurbished with all-leather seating and mood lighting installed, whilst standard class seats have new red covers on them.

The refurbishment of the fleet is part of the £140million commitment to improve passenger experience when travelling aboard Virgin Trains East Coast – with £21million spend on the refurbishment.
The refurbishment will tide Virgin East Coast through to the introduction of the Virgin Azuma (The InterCity Express Programme Class 800/Class 801 trains) which are due to enter service in 2018.
With air travel between London and Scotland becoming less attractive (with it being a case of Low Cost Carriers verse British Airways cut-down service out of Heathrow), train travel does represent a great way to enjoy centre-to-centre travel in the United Kingdom, without the worry of luggage and liquids restrictions.
