An interesting bit of news I eyeballed today was the quite closing of Vueling pulling its Barcelona to Frankfurt route.

Vueling currently operates a daily service between Frankfurt and Barcelona El Prat.It seem that daily service is for the chop after the 6th March 2017 according to Airlineroute.
Whilst not a great threat to Lufthansa (who operate up to five flights a day), it’s interesting that the low cost off-shot of International Airlines Group is retreating away from Lufthansa’s fortress hub.
Vueling operated a rather odd timetable, with 5 flights a week the morning, and two flights a week in the evening – hardly conducive to business traffic on a route like this.
As an intra-European route serving two quite important cities, its amazing that Vueling has decided that it can’t fill a plane a day, whilst Lufthansa can send five of them.
Interestingly. this leaves Lufthansa operating a route between the two cites. Not even Ryanair or EasyJet are contesting this route.
Have Lufthansa totally sewn this route up… or is there room for another entrant on this route?
For Vueling and IAG – a re-think might be needed especially if they want to attract German customers when their Low-Cost Long Haul Carrier launches – and a better timetable integrated into the new routes will help.
