As if Air France workers going on out on strike isn’t a thing, it seems that workers at the French Railway – SNCF are also going out on strike too.
The first strike kicks off this evening (2nd April) and will run through to Thursday morning.
The cut-down service pattern is a severe cut to the SNCF network – with
- one in eight TGV (High speed) trains operating
- one in five regional trains
- Major cancellations expected on suburban networks.
SNCF strongly recommends postponing your trip. International services operated by DB, Thayls, Eurostar , TGV Lyria, and Thello are hit, with cancellations and substitutions expected across the international network
This however isn’t the worst of it – with rolling strikes planned for the next three months.
The action is against the opening up of the French rail network to competition as well as the possible changes to workers conditions – based against a damning report by Jean-Cyril Spinetta suggesting SNCF prepares itself for change, and the French governments response.
Suffice to safe, the French rail unions aren’t happy… at all.
Along with the other strikes in France… well… If you have travels that take you into France in the next few months – you might want to plan your trip a lot more carefully than you would normally.
