When it comes to buying memory for my cameras or tablets – I’m not fussy the majority of the time (providing I stick to the big retailers and I’m using the right card for the job).
However, once a year – I try to get a Sandisk Extreme memory card on the cheap (from a known retail source/online place – and normally, not eBay).
This example set me back a total of £13 from Tesco. Not the cheapest in the world, but good in a pinch.
Why? Official Sandisk Extreme cards offer a free one-year licence of RescuePro – or free data recovery software
Data recovery software is a damn useful thing to have if you accidentally delete files from a memory card, and need to retrieve it in a hurry.
There’s a code in the package – so be careful when opening blister pack.
Once you’ve got the code, head to www.lc-tech.com/rescuepro to download the Sandisk Rescue Pro software. Scroll down, and hit the right option for your needs.
My card allows me to download RescePro Deluxe. So I’ve downloaded that product for Mac, and dragged and dropped it once unpacked.
Once loaded, run it and follow the instructions on-screen. There’s tooing and froing to do, but eventually, you’ll get a key which you can use to activate the product. Once activated – it’s usable for a year before you need to renew (or buy another memory card with Rescue Pro in it).
The joy of licence activations.
And then… off you go to use SandDisk Rescue Pro. It’s pretty simple to use to recover images. Just click and follow the instructions.
Not only will the software recover photos, it recovers videos and any other files – and not just off SD cards – USB memory sticks and hard disks are welcome too.
A file recovery utility is not a guarantee you will get a missing file back – but it is useful in the “last gasps” if you’ve lost a file from a memory card… or if you formatted the card by mistake.
Which can happen. Trust me.
Other recover software is out there (such as DataRescue and Easeus), but if you need something quick, dirty and you can get over the counter – this works a treat.
Especially as it comes with an SD or CF card.
