Day 2 of Aircraft Interiors Expo takes us to the packed how that is Geven and the launch of Lufthansa’s Group new seat for their short-haul fleet.
Again – like the announcement the day before – it’s based the Essenza seat.
The seat itself will be the same across the entire group of airlines, with different covers installed – you’ll see the family resemblance in the photos
Lufthansa Group lead representative, Geven Representative and three flight attendants from the three airlines getting these seats – Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and Swiss International Airlines
The side view of the seat – pitched at 29″

These will be installed initally on 50 Airbus A320neo family aircraft – with entry in to service in 2019. Swiss International Airlines will be the first of the group to have this fit.
The seat counts will remain the same as current.
Whilst the seats will be fitted with a 29″ seat pitch, it was revealed by Lufthansa that some rows towards the back of the plane will be pitched at 28″. The 29″ seat pitch appeared to be reasonably comfortable when I tried it.
Of course, your mileage may vary when it comes to seats like this.
The seats are padded with a firm foam core, with additional support in the back.
Lufthansa Group have no plans to retrofit their fleet with this seat currently, and only new planes will be delivered will have the new product.
As airlines continue to pack the passengers in – the latest generation of slimline seats continues to improve over the previous generation (one need only think of the B/E Aerospace Pinnacle – which I’ve written far too much about).
For Lufthansa passengers who remember the NEK Seats, these should be an upgrade when you’re in the air.
