Westjet signs for Recaro seating – both long and short haul

12/06/2018 by Kevincm

With the recent announcement of WestJet’s new long haul service, the airline has turned to Recaro for seating – both for short and long haul.

Let’s look at the longhaul seat, with the airline taking the CL3710 seat for Economy Class seating. I’ve covered it numerous times, with China Southern, Singapore Airlines, Delta and many more

These seats aren’t bad at all for long haul comfort (although they will be narrower as WestJet will fit them in a 787 – meaning 17″ to 17.4″ seat width. A highlight feature of the seat is the six-way adjustable headrest that is indeed… comfortable.

The CL3710’s will be fitted to the ten Boeing 787 Dreamliners Westjet are taking into their fleet.

Moving to short-haul, the airline will take the BL3520 economy class seats and CL4710 business class seats to go in their Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

Recaro BL3520

The BL3520 is a lightweight seat that has been around for some time, and offers reasonable comfort (it’s the basis of the Lufthansa NEK seat) and offers reasonable comfort. In the front cabin, the CL4710 will be used.

The CL4710 is a traditional mechanical recliner, which features a variety of stowage compartments for personal belongings. It alo has a leg rest, which can be adjusted in length and angle.

On the order of the seats Tim Croyle, Executive Vice-President of WestJet stated:

“Recaro impressed us with its intelligent design and fast delivery times,”

“Equipping the cabins of our new Boeing 787 Dreamliner and B737 MAX aircraft with these world-class seats, we are confident our guests will be impressed with the comfort and uncompromising quality of the CL3710 and BL3520 economy class seats and CL4710 business class seats.”

And it will be a fast shipping time, with deliveries due to commence this year (2018).

On the order – Dr. Mark Hiller, Chief Executive Office of Recaro Aircraft Seating  stated

We are extremely proud that WestJet is equipping its new aircraft with best in class Recaro seats for its long-haul flights as well as its short and medium-haul routes,” said . “We offer innovative, ergonomically designed seats for exceptionally comfortable travel in all classes.”

With the new planes needing seats, Recaro will be busy getting them ready – along with the other orders secured during the year so far.
