It seems Bang & Olufsen bagged another contract last week – with Singapore Airlines to offer their headphones in flight.
More interestingly, they’ll use the wireless headphones in the long-term on some of their long haul products. Initially, the airline will use the Bang & Olufsen’s Beoplay H9i wired headphones.

These will be rolled out this month (October 2018) in the newest Singapore Suites cabins, with the wireless versions to follow. The wired headphones will also be progressively rolled out to the rest of the airline’s other A380 Suites and First Class cabins in November.
On the launch – Singapore Airlines’ Acting Senior Vice President Customer Experience, Mr Yeoh Phee Teik stated:
“Singapore Airlines is excited to embark on this partnership with Bang & Olufsen, an established and highly respected name in audio. We are always looking for innovative ways to enhance customer experience through myKrisWorld, a first of-its-kind in-flight entertainment feature which provides a personal touch to the travel experience of customers. With Bang & Olufsen’s assurance of high quality, precision sound as well as ergonomic comfort of its headphones, we are confident our customers will benefit greatly from this collaboration,”
Mr Ron Holtdijk, Director Global Enterprise Division at Bang & Olufsen is happy with the partnership, stating
“At Bang & Olufsen we look forward to offering Singapore Airlines’ passengers an immersive audio experience. We are honoured to partner with an iconic, world-renowned airline that has always been known for its focus on innovation and technology, as well as its relentless commitment to delivering a personal experience to its customers. That’s why we are excited about the usage of our premium headphones in an environment where uncompromised quality and ease are of the utmost importance,”
It goes without saying the headphones will offer active noise cancelling technology, and features an aluminium touch interface, in an over-the-ear headphones with leather covers and memory foam cups. The headphones have an 18 hour runtime – which should handle nearly all of Singapore Airlines routes.
And it goes without saying – the headphones will be available on KrisShop soon enough if you want to add a pair to your personal collection.
With Bose exiting the commercial aviation entertainment market, there are opportunities for others to take their place at the high end of the market. Whilst the yield may be lower than what some might expect, it may provide an avenue for reaching customers they may not ordinarily do so.
