Swiss turns to Helvetic for more capacity

13/11/2018 by Kevincm

Swiss International Air Lines and Helvetic Airways have had a long relationship – with Helvetic providing aircraft for services on behalf of Swiss.

It seems the partnership they have will be extended, with Helvetic Airways to provide up to 8 Embraer E-190-E2 aircraft on the Swiss route network from 2019 onwards.

The agreement calls for up to eight E-190-E2 aircraft or similar equipment to be deployed on the Swiss network from 2019. Currently, the airline uses four Embraer E-190 aircraft are on a wet lease to Swiss, operating up to forty destinations as well as a number of Fokker 100 aircraft.

These will be operated as a wet-lease agreement (where crew, maintenance, insurance and the aircraft are leased in).

According to Swiss, the move confirms that Helvetic operate services to a high quality that meets Swiss International Air Lines standards. The move also allows for fleet planning, utilisation, and provides security too.

In terms of quotes SWISS CEO Thomas Klühr. states

“We are very pleased to be expanding our proven and long-standing partnership with Helvetic Airways,”

Tobias Pogorevc, CEO of Helvetic Airways also adds

“We are proud that SWISS is putting its faith in our company and our efficient and comfortable Embraer E190-E2 aircraft,”

In terms of fleet, Helvetic operate 7 Embraer E-190, and 5 Fokker 100 aircraft currently. 12 Embraer E-190-E2’s are inbound after a letter of intent was signed at Farnborough Air Show 2018 (and converted into an order on the 26th September).

In terms of routes, these are used on the Swiss European network, serving destinations that do not fill either an Airbus A320 aircraft or an Airbus A220-100.

Expect seating to be in a 2-2 configuration, with a standard Embraer configuration.

The new aircraft will replace the existing ones in the fleet, with the remaining four E-190-E2s to operate for Helvetic’s own services that the airline operates.
