It’s Sunday again, so it’s time for rather special airplane art.
This time focusing on one of the aviation icons – Concorde, as it celebrates 50 years since its first flight. There’s no historical run-down – a lot of Concorde’s history is documented for the record elsewhere, in books, on the internet and beyond.
I’m going to focus on the Concorde type planes I’ve spotted on my travels – and those that I have reasonably good photos of in this 50th Anniversary.
We’ll start with G-BOAC – the flagship of the British Airways Concorde fleet – shot in 2008 at Manchester Airport – before it had its hanger built.
We’ll move onto G-BOAG – the furtherest west Concorde that lives at The Museum of Flight in Seattle – shot in 2008. Again, this Concorde has a lovely hanger to protect it now.
Next, the resident of the Smithsonian at the Udvar Hazy Center, Air France’s Concorde F-BVFA
There’s even a Concorde at Heathrow Airport – G-BOAB– even if it looks a little unloved these days.
There’s also an Air France Concorde – F-BVFF – at Paris CDG if you taxi past it.
Also choosing a rainy day to go past it is a big no-no.
And moving closer to the present day – back to G-BOAC, in its enclosed hanger at Manchester Airport, at the Ringway Viewing Park
More airplane art next week!

Thanks for the memories. Particularly of BOAG which is my personal Concorde, having flown her twice, paid my respects when she did her final North American tour stop at YYZ, and did a walk through at the Seattle museum a few years ago.

Can you go inside any of them? I’ve only seen the one at the Udvar-Hazy and you couldn’t go or look into it, but it looks like maybe the one in Manchester (UK I assume) has a set of stairs up?

You can go aboard the ones in Seattle and Manchester, as well as the ones in Brooklands and New York (USS Intrepid).
No doubt there’s a lot out there you can too (like the ones in France and Germany). It’s worth a look around.
Just be prepared for how tight it is. It’s like a regional jet in some respects….
