APEX EXPO: SITAONAir to add connectivty for Aircalin

11/09/2019 by Kevincm

SITAONAIR grabbed a win at APEX Expo, announcing an in-flight connectivity deal to Aircalin.

We’ll concentrate on the connectivity side of the order. SITAONAir will provision its s bespoke, high-speed,  Wi-Fi portal, Internet ONAIR, over Inmarsat’s GX Aviation. The deal will allow fast connectivity as passenger demand for ‘always on’ connectivity on popular tourist routes operated by the airline – including routes to Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.

This being a portal of course (as well as an internet access point). Aircalin can now bring personalise the Internet ONAIR portal to reflect the airline’s own branding requirements and deliver a custom experience.

No equipment types or dates for installation have been listed in the order for the IFC equipment.

The airline operates two Airbus A320 aircraft, an Airbus A330-200, Airbus A330-900neo and two De Havilland DHC 6 Twin Otters. The airline has one Airbus A330-900neo and two Airbus A320neo aircraft in the delivery pipeline.  However, there’s a hint in the other part of the Aircalin order – wit the airline also take on SITAONAIR’s CrewTab solution.  When this is deployed, it will allow crew workflows to move from paper to electronic process and simplify the processes used.

Judging by the deployment of CrewTab on the A330-900neo and A320neo, it is a safe assumption that the same aircraft will gain in-flight connectivity.

Aircalin’s Chief Executive Officer, Didier Tappero comments on the recent development:

“As part of our ongoing relationship with SITAONAIR, the adoption of its connected CrewTab solution and Internet ONAIR portal enables our airline to modernize in synchronicity with the aviation industry. Not only are we saving time and costs, but we’re also providing a more personal and individualized experience for each of our passengers, as well as making a commitment to improved fuel economy.”

David Lavorel, Chief Executive Officer, SITAONAIR adds:

“We’re pleased to be continuing on the journey to bringing enhanced operational ability and passenger satisfaction to Aircalin. I believe that through the ever-evolving capabilities of CrewTab and Inmarsat’s GX Aviation, its crews and passengers alike will benefit.”
