An Irish Aviation Enthusiasts day out

An Irish Aviation Enthusiasts Day Out - Header Image

In this adventure

  • Cheap flights? Not at £95 one way…
  • Birmingham to Holyhead with London Northwestern Railway and Transport for Wales
  • Irish Ferries Holyhead to Dublin Ferryport (Club Class)
  • Morning Adventures in Dublin
  • Irish Aviation Enthusiasts Day hosted by Dublin Airport
  • Back to being a passenger in T2/T1
  • Aer Lingus Regional EI3276 Dublin to Birmingham
  • 25 hours and 36 minutes later
  • Embracing the Community

On my various trips to Dublin, I’ve banged on about the Aviation Geek community and how welcoming it can be. And it was wonderful to see Dublin Airport embrace this and the #avgeek community – be it to a small number of guests to take them behind the scenes as a thank you for their support.

I’ve been using Dublin on and off since I started Mileage and Tier Point running, and it’s really interesting to watch the development of this airport over the years (be the move from the old US immigration clearance area to the new area in T2, the opening of the 100 gates, the opening of T2 and so on).

And the airport has evolved to meet its passenger needs where it can – and that’s welcome to see.

I for one appreciate when airports open up – as it gives you a look into what makes a place tick, function and has the ability to evolve.

As Dublin Airport continues to evolve (With the new runway targeted for 2021), I can only see two things in the future – friendliness and success.

Onto the passenger experiences

London Northwestern Railway – Well, at least it was an express layout train – even if the stopping patterns wasn’t

a train with blue seats and a table

Transport for Wales – It’s great to see the trains being done up as Kelos and the Welsh Government flex their mules on the Wales Rail franchise. Now, if they could ban speakers and boom boxes on the trains, we’d be in business.

Irish Ferries – The M/V Ulysses offered a great passenger experience – when you paid the extra £16 to upgrade to Club Class. The quietness is worth it – as is the place to sleep and the food/drink included

a room with chairs and tables

Aer Lingus Regional – did an A to B job well, providing comfort in the air as well as a decent place to rest my head for the flight. Whilst boarding from the 300 bus gates can be a pain, it gives another tour of the airfield – which as a nerd, I appreciate

That’s your lot for this trip. Again, a massive thank you to Dublin Airport for hosting the aviation enthusiasts and myself.

I am the god of hell fire. And I bring you… fire engines!

Next up: Autumn. We all know what that means don’t we?

Join me in Fall Travels to Chicago with American Airlines and Finnair

And yes – you read that right. Finnair.  Am I mad, nuts, or do I want to give Finnair another try long haul after last years… fun and games.

There’s only one way to find out!

For now – keep watching Summer Premium Adventures – which should get interesting again next week.
