It’s coming to the end of the year rapidly. But we should always look back at the events of the week before – in Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

New Aircraft news

  • ATR72-600 takes flight with Silver Airways – and become the first operator of the type in the USA
  • Airbus delivers its first A350 to Scandinavian Airlines – Welcome Ingegerd Viking
  • 100 up – Airbus delivers the 100th A220 aircraft

Passenger Experience

  • British Airways opens its refurbished Geneva Airport Lounge – A nice new lounge for Geneva
  • Japan Airlines announces new catering options with Dean and Deluca – Once again, Japan Airlines innovates in the second service. Dear airlines, please don’t ignore the second service please.

Routes and Networks

  • Juneyao Air to launch Dublin – Shanghai route – Dublin regains its precious Ireland to China route… via Helsinki
  • Norwegian cuts long haul services from Copenhagen And Stockholm – As Norwegian Air Shuttle continues to try to find the promised land – Profitability.

Hong Kong Airlines

Unable to pay staff and pulling routes… and IFE Content. Things… are not looking good for the carrier.

  • Hong Kong Airlines pulls back from Vancouver and other destinations
  • Hong Kong Airlines turns off its In-Flight Entertainment

Avanti my son… Avanti!

  • Goodbye Virgin Trains, Hello Avanti West Coast – We’re saying goodbye to the Virgin Trains brand next week, and First/Trenitalia have announced their new branding. Avanti West Coast. Avanti my son!
