Lufthansa Group adds flexiblity to its booking policies

06/03/2020 by Kevincm

Lufthansa Group is moving to introduce new booking options across its network in a bid to keep bookings open and people moving.

The new waiver applies to

  • Air Dolomiti
  • Austrian Airlines
  • Brussels Airlines
  • Lufthansa
  • SWISS

The new extensive waiver policy for re-booking applies to both existing and future bookings worldwide.

General re-booking option for future bookings:

From the 6th March and until 31 March 2020, the Lufthansa Group airlines will waive the rebooking fees for all newly booked flights worldwide and offer a one-time rebooking – regardless of conditions of the original booking fare purchased.

You can rebook to a new travel date until 31 December 2020 without rebooking fees.

Possibility to rebook existing bookings:

The new waiver policy for existing bookings applies worldwide for tickets purchased before 5 March with a travel date up to 30 April 2020. Passengers can rebook to a new date up to 31 December 2020 without any rebooking fee – regardless of conditions of the original booking fare purchased.

Applicable for both waiver policies: The departure and destination airports must be identical. If the original fare is no longer available, the corresponding difference must be paid. The rebooking must be made before the original travel date.

Giving passengers Flexibility

For Lufthansa, introducing this new policy will help their passengers to make their travel plans more flexible under the exceptional circumstances caused by the spread of the coronavirus. Meanwhile, it can give a better picture of where the airline needs to make cuts in services.

And those cuts are coming.

Lufthansa has announced that its group airlines will implement further capacity cuts of up to 50% in the coming weeks due to “drastic” declines in bookings following the Coronavirus outbreak.

The spring of airline discontent is about to arrive – if airlines like it or not.
