One of the things that Lufthansa did last year, was to upcycle an Airbus A340-600. Well, this year – they’re deciding to upcycle an Airbus A320 to create exclusive lifestyle furniture.
Your home too can be filled with parts of an upcyled A320 – Image. Lufthansa World Shop
The Airbus A320 – D-AIPA “Papa Alpha” or “Buxtehude” was selected for this project. This aircraft was flown from Toulouse to Frankfurt for delivery on 16 October 1989. She then operated exclusively for Lufthansa for the next 29 years, 8 months until she was decommissioned.
So what have they made with an aircraft? Rather a lot. But it depends how much cash you have spare.
Let’s start with the door bar – a bar that is made out of the exit door. Yours for a cool €7,797.
Maybe you’d prefer a winglet fence table (I know I would). Got a spare €3,119? Too late… it’s sold out…

Something a little more affordable… a Speedbrake Coffee table? Yours for €2,436
If your budget is a little smaller, they do have keyring tags by AviationTag starting at €32 for a white skin tag, or €40 a blue one (no yellow ones sadly).

An eventful life
Like most aircraft, they Buxtehude had an eventful life, flying to 147 in the Lufthansa domestic, european and mid-haul network, flying aroun71,400 flight hours across 56,983 flights and transported around 6 million passengers.
Her domestic farewell flight from Frankfurt to Hamburg and back flying over the Buxtehude city took place on 28 May 2019.
In Quotes
Stefan Wolf, Deputy Head of the A320 fleet said
“Every piece has a story to tell, has flown tens of thousands of kilometres and has been through storms, lightning and hail”,
So if you had the cash…
What would you get? The wingtip table was the one thing I might had sprung for… .

[…] Back in 2019, we featured a post about how Lufthansa was upcycling an old plane into household goods. Should it be any surprise that since even more planes are grounded in 2020 that Lufthansa is presenting a second upcycling collection? […]
