Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (20th December)

19/12/2020 by Kevincm

Well – we’ve been through one hell of a week (and that’s, to put it mildly). And it’s… almost over.

Welcome to Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

Enough said (replaces the planed picture I was going to use today).

Travel Restrictions

This has been fast-moving this week – to put it bluntly. Especially with the introduction of Tier 4 restrictions in London and the South East of England.

  • Tier 4 Restrictions introduced for London and South East – Travel restricted– A new tier appears and London & South East goes into Lockdown
  • DEEP DIVE: Tier 4 Lockdown in England and International Travel– A dive into the international travel perspective of the Tier 4 move
  • The Netherlands bans air travel to the United Kingdom– And the first ban following the Tier 4 announcement
  • U.K. Travel Corridors update – 3 countries removed– The last update of the year… although “we’ll see”

Isolation time changes

  • UK COVID-19 Isolation time drops from 14 days to 10 days – including travellers– Less time to isolate
  • England “Test to Release” goes live– And even less if you pay to test.

Passenger Experience

  • Frontier Airlines to deploy the Recaro SL3710 seat – A lightweight seat win?– Hint: The seat isn’t awful.
  • Festive Menu comes to Qatar Airways– Well, it is almost Christmas.

Routes and Networks

  • Emirates to add Istanbul back to its network– Another destination for Emirates

New Aircraft News

  • Air Greenland formally orders an Airbus A330-800neo

Insurance coverage

  • Japan Airlines to offer complimentary COVID-19 insurance cover

Pretty Pictures

  • Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300ER at New York JFK

Next Week

Normally, the two weeks between Christmas and New Year are quiet times in the aviation press. Sadly, this year it’s going to be a lot busier than any of us would like I suspect. I’ll be keeping my eyes open as we barrel into the festive two weeks.

But for now, stay safe and wear a mask.
