Norwegian Air Shuttle plots Summer 2022 plans

13/08/2021 by Kevincm

Norweigan Air Shuttle is planning its Summer 2022 schedule, with up to 142 flights between the UK and Ireland to Scandinavia.

As well as the 142 flights from Dublin, London, Edinburgh and Manchester, for Summer 2022, the airline plans up to 259 flights a week from Europe to Scandinavia.

Planned operations include:

London Gatwick – 115 flights a week

  • Oslo
  • Stavanger
  • Trondheim
  • Bergen, Helsinki
  • Stockholm
  • Copenhagen

Manchester – 8 weekly flights

  • Oslo
  • Stavanger
  • Bergen
  • Stockholm

Edinburgh – 15 weekly flights

  • Oslo
  • Stockholm
  • Copenhagen

Dublin – four weekly flights

  • Oslo
  • Copenhagen

The move comes as a result of travel restrictions and quarantine requirements easing and consequently demand flights increasing. Tickets for the summer 2022 season are now on sale.

Norwegian expects that the ever-increasing vaccination rate will mean that the risk of new travel restrictions will be significantly lower in 2022.

In quotes

“We are pleased to be able to present our flying shcedule for the next summer season. With this summer schedule we will continue to deliver on our strategy of investing in Norway and the Nordic region. In recent months, we have noticed an increased demand from customers, and we look forward to welcoming them on board to their favourite Nordic destinations.” Said Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian.

“Norwegian is now well equipped to look ahead to 2022, although we will continue to some extent to be affected by the pandemic as the industry begins to recover. We have considerable flexibility in the use of our aircraft, and after the restructuring we have lower debt, an adapted fleet and organisation, and we have received new capital. It has been a tough time, but the result is that we are stronger now than before the pandemic.”

Scaling back up after being cut to the bone

Norwegian Air Shuttle suffered badly over the past 16 months, with its operation slimmed down and it losing its long-haul arm.

The result will be a much leaner airline – and hopefully a bit more logic as it plans its future, with a network to match.

It will be interesting to see when Norweigan has the confidence to attack other markets again, as well as how grows its network when the time comes.
