Canadian airline WestJet is adding a new international network destination, with London Heathrow being a new destination for Spring/Summer 2022.
The airline will open a route between Calgary and London Heathrow, utilising a Boeing 787 on the route.
It will feature a three-class service, with Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class seating.
With the addition of Heathrow to WestJet’s network this spring, WestJet will connect Calgary to 77 non-stop destinations throughout the year. WestJet will also continue to offer non-stop flights between Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto and Halifax to London, Gatwick.
Additional network details for travel between Calgary and London–Heathrow including frequency, timing and introductory pricing will be available, and for sale, in the coming weeks.

John Weatherill, WestJet Chief Commercial Officer said
“As the airline with the most flights from Alberta, this is an important recovery milestone as we forge new connections between Canada and one of the world’s most sought after global hubs,”
“We continue to strengthen our network, offering more options for business and leisure travellers and these investments will expedite our industry’s recovery while ensuring Western Canada builds back from the pandemic more connected than ever before.”
“We are committed to the expansion of our global hub in Calgary and supporting the recovery of many sectors who rely on travel and tourism,” continued Weatherill. “As the airline with the most non-stop European destinations from YYC, we are looking forward to guests benefitting from more options and increased connectivity for travel between Canada and the UK.”
An interesting addition
Currently, WestJet will face competition with Air Canada on this direct routing. For travellers who want not to use the maple leaf carrier, it should provide an interesting option.
However, there’s a lot of detail missing from the release – in particular the frequency and timings.
That – could make or break the service in the short to medium term.

Any word on where they’re getting the slots at LHR from?
It’ll be interesting to see the frequencies and how much this will cannabalize from their LGW traffic.

I wonder if BA will now reinstate the Heathrow to Calgary route?
When did BA used to run it, as I think it was seasonal? Any ideas?
