Finnair Expands its US network

07/12/2021 by Kevincm

Finnair is continuing to expand its network to the USA, with the airline planning a number of new routes

From its home of Helsinki Vanatta, Finnair will operate fights to Seattle from 1 June 2022. The airline will operate these in the summer season of 2022, flying three weekly flights to Seattle on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

In the summer season of 2022, Finnair will fly from Helsinki also to Dallas, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Meanwhile, the airline continues to double down at Stockholm Arlanda, with plans to increase connectivity to New York John F. Kennedy Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. These flights increase starting from 1 May 2022,  with the airline planning to fly from Stockholm to New York daily, and to Los Angeles four times a week.

Flights are available to book via Finnair and its usual distribution channels.

Finnair’s Chief Commercial Officer Ole Orvér. said

“We are delighted to offer more connections between the US and Northern Europe,”

“Seattle is a fantastic destination for leisure travellers who enjoy vibrant city life and beautiful nature. We also expect this new connection to be a pleasant surprise for many business travellers.”

Keeping the pressure up

Whilst the Seattle link is useful for Finns who need to head towards Redmond and other software companies based in the Greater Seattle area, the really interesting bit is the continued pressure Finnair is applying to SAS at its Stockholm Arlanda hub, with the airline upgrading its services to North America.

For SAS, it might be a move to innovate further and expand its network, whilst Finnair gets to utilise its fleet further beyond its traditional home.

Certainly, if Finnair is expanding from a non-traditional base, they must be either taking a hit per flight that departs Arlanda, or they’re keeping their head more above water and have the further capacity to spare.
