It is time for another rail strike in the UK. If you are planning to be elsewhere on a train today (or trying to travel home from a conference in Birmingham), you might want to see if you can get a lift from your friends.
If you have friends, who enjoy Yakety Sax playing when going in and out of a venue.
Good luck even getting into Birmingham New Street today, let alone catch a train – Image, Economy Class and Beyond.
This time the strike action is led by the ASLEF union with 13 train operators out on strike.
If you have a ticket for travel on Wednesday 5th October 2022 and your journey is affected, in whole or in part, by one of the train companies undertaking industrial action you can use this ticket to complete your journey either the day before or up to and including Friday 7th October 2022.

Are services to the London airports impacted?
There is an impact – although there is less than usual.
Serving the London Region:
Heathrow
- Heathrow Express is not running any services. In addition, they are impacted by the Great Western Railway strike.
- Elizabeth Line is operating
- The Piccadilly Line is operating
The others
- Gatwick Express will have services operating, as will Southern
- Stansted Express will operate one train an hour between London Liverpool Street and Stansted.
- Luton Airport will have no East Midlands Railway services. Use Thameslink.
- City Airport is accessible via the DLR
Further action on the way
We’re not done yet – not by a long shot. RMT members will strike on the 8th of October, which will cause a much wider impact across the rail network. In addition, further strikes are happening on a more operator-by-operator basis. These are:
- East Midlands Railway on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 October
- Great Western Railway on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 October
- ScotRail on Monday 10 October
The Great Western Railway strike will impact Heathrow Express. Advance planning will be needed.
In addition, the unions are preparing to ballot their members on further strike action.
This wave of strikes is not over yet.
