Etihad to expand its European footprint with two new destinations

17/01/2023 by Kevincm

Etihad is expanding its European destination network, with the airline adding Abu Dhabi to Copenhagen in Denmark and Düsseldorf in Germany.

Both services will commence on the 1st of October in time for the winter season. Abu Dhabi to Copenhagen will operate four times a week, whilst Abu Dhabi to Düsseldorf will operate three times weekly.

Copenhagen will be new to the Etihad network (and also the first time the airline has served Denmark), whilst Düsseldorf returns to the network after an absence, with the airline operating to the major hubs of Frankfurt and Munich (which are served daily).

The flights will be operated using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with 28 seats in Business and 262 in Economy.

Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said:

“We are thrilled to start flying to Denmark for the first time and to expand our network in Germany to our third city, providing guests with more holiday options and easier access between Abu Dhabi and Europe.

“Our new flights will take off for the winter season — the perfect time for guests to escape the cold and enjoy Abu Dhabi’s beautiful beaches, world-class entertainment and rich heritage — and also ideal for travellers choosing to experience the unique allure of Europe in the winter.

“With our network expanding to 66 cities, there are even more must-see destinations to plan your next great adventure with Etihad Airways.”

Sustainable Growth

With Etihad moving from its growth in-all-directions model to a much more focused growth model (as well as mostly abandoning the Etihad Equity Alliance), it opens the path for the airline to enjoy sustainable growth.

Hopefully, this will be reflected in the airlines’ balance sheet, which has featured more red ink than black ink over the past years. Keeping the network managed, as well as profitable will continue to be a key challenge for the airline, as it grows its 66-city network.

Tickets are currently on sale on Etihad.com and through the usual travel agent sources.
